Arkansas Delta’s Economic Heritage Summer Tour: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home

  • 110 Center Drive Dyess, AR, 72330 United States (map)

Start your summer off right and join us for the first stop on the Arkansas Delta’s Economic Heritage Summer Tour! There is something for everyone at the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home! The educational opportunities for you and your students are abundant.

Topics include: turning swampland into a resettlement colony, floods, droughts, and other disasters, and of course the Cash family coming to town and how that influenced the music of Johnny Cash.

Penny Toombs, Site Director, will give us a guided tour and share many great resources. Guest Speaker Dr. Tina Teague will discuss the progression of farming in the Delta and its economic impact. Terra Aquia, K12 Programs Coordinator at the Arkansas Center for Research in Economics at the University of Central Arkansas and Jeannette Bennett, Senior Economic Education Specialist from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, will help us make the economic connections related to this historical treasure of the Arkansas Delta.

This project is made possible by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
