Economics Arkansas REAL Conference 2021

Classroom Learning Game - Arkansas Stock Market Game™

If you had an unexpected $400 expense next week, would you be able to cover it? A study by the Federal Reserve Bank released in 2019 found that “relatively small, unexpected expenses, such as a car repair or replacing a broken appliance, can be a hardship for many families without adequate savings.”

When the same study was conducted in 2013, half of participating adults said they would cover it using cash, savings, or a credit card paid off at the next statement. However, the 2018 results showed that 61% of adults would be able to cover the expense using cash or its equivalent, a small sign that economics and personal finance education are making an impact.

Economics Arkansas REAL Conference

Each summer, Economics Arkansas convenes experts from academia, business, and industry to lead a wide variety of economic and personal finance sessions during a two-day professional development conference. The conference is offered to Arkansas PreK-12 educators completely free of charge.

The 2021 REAL Conference will be held virtually July 21-22. Concurrent sessions will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in three tracks: Elementary, Middle/High School, and General.

“Economics Arkansas provides one of the best training resources in the state. They are professional, punctual, engaging and instructional. Economics education should be a fundamental part of our students’ learning (PreK-12), yet it is often ignored. These workshops give teachers the encouragement, motivation, and most importantly, the tools needed to integrate economics into their routines and lessons.”
Kim Reimers, Cutter Morning Star Elementary, 2020

The Stock Market Game™

This year’s conference features topics ranging from COVID-19, the American Revolution, the Great Depression, agriculture, and young entrepreneurs. Participants may even see appearances by Cinderella, the Little Red Hen, and Pete the Cat!
